Fancy an afternoon with the family away from the beach? Drive to Terra Maris in Oostkapelle, the museum of nature and landscape with a large museum garden; during school holidays there are regular children’s activities.

Westkapelle on Walcheren is a coastal village on the North Sea, protected by the high sea dike and recognisable by the red lighthouse. The beach runs along the dike and south towards and beyond Zoutelande. The village breathes sea and history, with sturdy dikes, groynes and wide views.

Walk over the Westkapelse Zeedijk or follow the dune path to Zoutelande or Domburg. The Westkapelse Kreek is lovely for a stroll or birdwatching. In the Polderhuis Museum you can dive into dike and war history. On days with good waves you can surf here; on calm days, SUP or swim along the coast.

Close by are Zoutelande at about 4 km and Domburg at about 6 km. Towards Oostkapelle you’ll find De Manteling, Kasteel Westhove and the Terra Maris museum about 8 to 10 km away. For a city day go to Middelburg at around 13 km or the boulevard of Vlissingen at about 14 km. Historic Veere is about 16 km.
